When the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020, patients living with cancer across New England faced an added layer of uncertainty in their lives. These patients were already facing the financial toxicity of cancer, and a global health crisis created more stress for those fighting an already-deadly disease.
When JAF established its COVID-19 Relief Fund, Bob’s Discount Furniture answered the call. In the past, Bob’s has participated as JAF’s annual Giving Tuesday partner, but in May 2020, the organization teamed up with JAF for Giving Tuesday Now, a global day of giving created in response to the pandemic. Bob’s was JAF’s matching partner for the event, matching up to $25,000 for donors to increase their impact.
But they have done so much more than that, raising nearly $800,000 for JAF since their partnership began.
Ted English, Executive Chairman of Bob’s Discount Furniture, was honored as a JAF Game Changer at the Foundation’s 2020 Sofa Soiree Gala.
“I was the Chair of the Board of Boston Medical Center for many years, and I saw first-hand the direct impact JAF had on a lot of families,” English said. “When people get sick and they’re in the hospital and they’re stretching to find that last dollar to pay the rent, having an organization like JAF behind them really helps.”
Said JAF President and CEO, Jen Andruzzi, “We went to Ted [English] and said ‘Bob’s Discount Furniture has been our Giving Tuesday partner for years now, and you’ve been a matching gift donor. What do you think about upping the game this year?’ And that was really hard because the stores were closed at the time of the ask. But he didn’t even have to think about it. He said yes.”
We've partnered with our friends at @MyBobs to DOUBLE your #GivingTuesday donations to the Joe Andruzzi Foundation today.
All funds help cancer patients & families in need of financial assistance remain in their homes this holiday season.
