17th Annual Joe Andruzzi & Friends Golf Tournament: Driving Change for Cancer Patients

On Monday, June 9, the Joe Andruzzi Foundation brought together golfers and celebrities for an amazing day of golf that raised more than $355,000 for New England cancer patients and their family members!

“We are honored to welcome so many friends, sponsors, and new supporters to the tournament this year,” said Joe Andruzzi, Co-Founder and Chief Engagement Officer. “Their contributions through this event are allowing cancer patients to pursue treatment without worry about how to pay their everyday household bills. Jen and I are so grateful for this support.”

This year’s Presenting Sponsor was once again Frankie’s Hospitality Group/Apotho Therapeutics! We are so grateful to have the support of the entire Medeiros Family year over and their generosity of providing the golfer swag bag each year!

With our golfers gathered around the flagpole for the shotgun start WEEI’s Nick Stevens kicked things off with some great laughs while, together with Joe and Jen, reminding everyone of the Foundation’s mission and why we’re here to play today. As always, we were so fortunate to have the support of Joe’s celebrity friends who came out to support: Ivan Frears, Russ Hochstein, Jared Haibon, Max Lane, Patrick Pass, Dante Scarnecchia, Jon Williams, Jerry Thornton, and Nick “Fitzy” Stevens.

On course, players enjoyed our games such as the air cannon (sponsored by LeaderBoard) and several guest vendors offering information and samples such as Apotho Therapeutics, Fairways to Heaven, NOBULL Project, and Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits.

After a full day of play on Black Rock’s beautiful and exclusive course, golfers returned for a cocktail hour (sponsored by GlideFast Consulting) and last look at this year’s silent auction (sponsored by Amplix) followed by a delicious BBQ buffet dinner (sponsored by DerenzoCharitable Foundation).

As always, the highlight of our day is the Mission Moment where the Foundation shares how we are positively impacting patients in our communities. This year, we met Nicole. Nicole was 7 months pregnant with her first child when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through the support of her husband, Dan, loving network of family and friends, Nicole is healthy today and the proud mom of a beautiful little boy, Leo. JAF also provided support through assistance grants that made a difference on their journey.

Her story and the generosity of our guests raised more than $39,000 for our appeal, led this year by WEEI personality and Barstool Sportswriter, Jerry Thornton!

With gratitude to our sponsors and golfers, everyone had some special parting gifts. Thanks to photography by The Henry Studio, every foursome received a group photo courtesy of Plainridge Park Casino. Also, thanks to Sanlin St. Flowers and Faithway Flowers, guests grabbed a fresh spring bouquet of flowers to take home to someone special after enjoying a long day the tournament!

The Foundation is incredibly grateful to everyone who participated again this year or joined us for the first time. Every year we work to create a fun event that translates into more help, hope, and reasons to smile for New England cancer patients.
