Despite the summer heat here in New England, Patty Shostek and I have been out on our bikes preparing for another Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC). For both of us this is our second year riding with the Patriot Platelet Pedalers, but for Patty the journey is especially meaningful. Last year, she rode with her husband, Todd, who passed away one month after the ride from pancreatic cancer at the young age of 47. Todd even received the “most valuable pedaler” award from the team.

As former caregivers, Patty and I have seen this horrible disease up close and personally. We had young children to care for along with our husbands. Both of us learned to be strong yet accept the help of our friends and families.
