On Monday, June 24, 2019, the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, its supporters, and a host of local athletes and celebrities, came together at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass. for the 11th Annual Joe Andruzzi & Friends Golf Tournament to have a day of fun out on the links and to raise crucial funds in support of New England cancer patients.
By the end of the day, over $350,000 had been raised, allowing the Foundation to provide financial assistance to hundreds of New England cancer patients and their family members in the months to come. This also means that, through 11 years, our golf tournament has raised over $2.5 million.
So much of the success of the event is due to our incredibly generous sponsors, led by our Presenting Sponsor (and long-time JAF supporter) East Commerce Solutions, Inc.
CEO Ed Medeiros and President Lisa Medeiros have long been champions of our Foundation, and Monday’s Tournament marked their ninth year as a supporter of the event and sixth as its Presenting Sponsor. If we say it a million times it still won’t be enough (but that won’t stop us from trying): thank you for your inspiring support of JAF’s mission!
We also want to share our gratitude to so many other amazing sponsors who supported the event – including, Celebrity Sponsor Bob’s Discount Furniture, Dinner Sponsor J. Calnan & Associates, and Auction Sponsor J. Derenzo Companies – just a few of the numerous supporters who donated their time and resources to ensure we raised significant funds towards JAF’s mission.
We were also privileged to have a number of patient recipients and their family members play-in, volunteer, or attend the tournament. One former JAF grant recipient in particular – Amy Deveau – shared her family’s cancer story with our golfers through a video (below) shown during the post-round dinner program.
We can’t thank Amy, Michael, and the adorable Millie, enough for being with us on Monday, and for using their platform to educate our golfers about the hidden costs of cancer and how funds raised through the tournament can help relieve these burdens for patients across New England.
And, of course, we want to thank the all-star list of celebrities/athletes/coaches who donated their time to support the event, including ABC’s The Bachelor contestant (and Patriots super-fan) Jared Haibon; Actor Kevin Chapman, Sportscasters Tom E. Curran, Jayme Parker, Meredith Gorman, Steve Burton and Bob Halloran; Comedian Nick “Fitzy” Stevens, country music star Louis Bello; and many, many others. We also want to send a special shout out and thank you to Bob Socci, the voice of the Patriots on 98.5 The Sports Hub, who generously volunteered his time to serve as auctioneer during the dinner program.
