On a warm autumn day, the Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) brought together dozens of patient families for a very special (Up)Beat Event at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, Connecticut. Patients and their family members enjoyed
For a few hours, cancer wasn’t the focus—joy was.
That’s what our JAF’s (Up)Beat Events are all about: creating meaningful moments that allow patients and their loved ones to set aside the weight of treatment schedules and hospital visits and instead soak in life’s simple pleasures. At Lyman Orchards, those simple pleasures were abundant—whether it was apple picking, savoring warm cider donuts, or sharing a smile during a hayride.
One JAF family shared, “…what an amazing day at Lyman Orchards for the UpBeat Event on September 28th. Everything was amazing — the food, corn maze, apple picking, meeting Joe, and most importantly, having the ability to meet other families that are all going through the same thing in different ways. We all know that this disease has affected us in different ways, but the day was a great way to leave it at the door and enjoy each other, even if it was for a couple of hours.”
These experiences wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity of Lyman Orchards, who welcomed our families with open arms. Beyond their reputation for breathtaking orchards, high-top apple pies, and seasonal fun, Lyman Orchards has a long-standing legacy of giving back. For years, they’ve supported cancer-focused organizations across Connecticut, ensuring that families facing difficult journeys know they are not alone. This tradition of care made our partnership with them feel especially meaningful.
The Joe Andruzzi Foundation is deeply grateful to Lyman Orchards for helping us spread cheer and connection during this (Up)Beat Event. Their continued support of the cancer community makes a real difference, and we’re honored to have shared this day of joy with them.
“What a wonderful day for our patient recipients,” said Joe Andruzzi, Chief Engagement Officer. “Lyman Orchards provided a beautiful backdrop for these families to forget about cancer for a little while and relax with their loved ones.”
The sun shining brightly, families left with full bags of apples, full hearts, and memories that will last well beyond the season. For JAF, it was yet another reminder of the healing power of togetherness—and of how special moments can blossom when communities come together in kindness.
