Today, many communities are mourning the loss of Mrs. Myra Kraft. Recognized in the Patriots family as the “moral compass” for the team, she also served as the president for the New England Patriots Charitable Foundation.
I often was inspired by Mrs. Kraft’s philanthropic drive and spirit. She donated her local celebrity status to helping a variety of organizations ranging from cancer to children’s welfare to Jewish causes. Her tireless dedication, intellect and compassion were evident in all situations.
Personally, I will never forget when Mrs. Kraft attended one of the fundraising events I held for C.J. Buckley. My jaw practically dropped when I saw her come through the door, sit in the front row alongside the Buckley family and intently listen to the speakers.
Mrs. Kraft always said so many wonderful things that inspired me to continue our grassroots fundraising efforts. My heart breaks to hear that cancer snatched another precious life too early.
In the words of Maya Angelou, “How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” As I continue in my role that includes fundraising for cancer research and providing financial assistance for cancer patients and their families, I will think of Mrs. Kraft daily — a true she-roe.
