As many of you know – New York is a very special place for myself, and really the extended Andruzzi family. I grew up on Staten Island, and spent my formative years at Tottenville High School.
Since Jen and I started the Joe Andruzzi Foundation back in 2008, we’ve always been blown away by the generosity of our New York and New Jersey supporters – and in turn, we’ve been able to assist more than hundreds of patients in the area. As JAF continues to grow outside New England, we have seen significant increases in the number of applicants living in the Tri-State area. In fact, New York (+106%), New Jersey (+48%), and Connecticut (+33%) represent the three largest growth states our foundation has provided financial assistance to residences in thus far in 2015 (versus 2014).
Simply put – whether it’s traveling long distances to attend one of our foundation’s events, hosting a third-party event for a NY/NJ-area patient recipient, etc., we’ve always felt warmth from the good people of New York.
And for the second time ever, we’re sending Team JAF runners to the streets of Manhattan on Sunday, March 20, 2016 for the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon – and we want YOU to come along for the ride (or, run)!
The race will take Team JAF runners on a 13.1-mile tour of NYC, stopping traffic in Manhattan, from Central Park through Times Square to South Street Seaport – all to raise funds in support of JAF’s mission of providing help, hope and a reason to smile for cancer patients and their families.
For our second annual NYC Half, Team JAF is looking for five (5) runners, each committed to raising a minimum of $1,500 in exchange for:
- Guaranteed entry into the NYC Half Marathon
- A personal fundraising page on Crowdrise
- Fundraising and training support through CharityTeamsmanagement
- An official Team JAF singlet to wear on race day
- A special pre-race Team JAF gathering
Our 2015 NYC Half team raised over $10,000 – and we’re setting the bar even higher this year, and each dollar raised will help cancer patients and families pay necessary bills, allowing patients to focus on the fight against cancer. Team JAF runners are also encouraged to spread our (Up)Beat philosophy as they fundraise and compete, showing how a positive attitude can conquer any hurdle. From something as simple as running a race, to something as strenuous as battling cancer, a positive outlook can transform the outcome.
Already have a NYC Half qualified or invitational entry and want to fundraise for charity? You can join Team JAF as well!

And, as is our motto – Always Run To. Always Run For. Never Run From.
