Team JAF takes on first BankNewport 10 Miler

It was the perfect day – blue skies, moderate temps, and water lapping at the shores. Best of all, nearly $11,000 was raised to support cancer patients and their families who are face financial challenges due to a cancer diagnosis.

On Sunday, June 5 seven Team JAF athletes took to the streets of Newport Rhode Island – completing the BankNewport 10 Miler! This was JAF’s first time participating in a Rhode Island Road Race and we couldn’t be more proud of our athletes for helping us spread awareness in the Ocean State!

Congratulations and thank you to Becky Markunas, Katie Tully, Katie Adelstein, Tracey Malone, Madison Peltier, Sarah Remington, and Bill Donovan for representing Team JAF!  The Foundation is so proud and grateful for each of these amazing individuals for their fundraising.

If you aren’t familiar with this road race, it spans from Ocean Drive to Bellevue Avenue in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island.  BankNewport 10 Miler is part of a series of New England 10 Milers held throughout the year.  Newport welcomed 1,500 runners this year filled with returning athletes looking to best their time as well as first-timers.  JAF was joined by many other charitable organizations.

JAF staff and volunteers staffed the first water stop at mile 2 and cheered on the runners.  Post-event festivities gathered everyone at historic Fort Adams.

Thanks to Gray Matter Marketing  for supporting JAF by providing bibs that allowed us to participate in the race.  Special thanks also to New Balance for providing our terrific race tanks for the runners.  Much appreciation for our volunteer crew who awoke early on a Sunday morning to journey to Newport and support our runners!

JAF can’t wait to return to Newport next year for this incredible event!
