March 2018

Hopping Into Spring Like…

While the New England weather hasn’t totally cooperated so far this “spring,” there have been signs in the JAF world that warmer days are ahead – like the upcoming Boston Marathon and 10th Annual Joe Andruzzi & Friends Golf Tournament! (Not to mention that Easter appears to have come early for some furry-tailed members of Team JAF – more on that below).

We may have recently turned the clocks forward, but before we close the book on March 2018, let’s recap the month-that-was at JAF…

All the best,

Jen and Joe Andruzzi

TEAM JAF MARATHON FUNDRAISING TO GO

Together Forward: 17 Days Until Marathon Monday

Can you believe Patriots’ Day is just over two weeks away? Our 2018 Team JAF runners have navigated one of the worst New England winters to ever train through, but they are all cruising down the final stretches of their Marathon journeys!

To date, the team has raised over $130,000 towards its goal of $172,500 – all in support of JAF’s mission of providing help, hope, and a reason to smile, for New England cancer patients and their families by contributing financial support when it is needed most.

There are so many special stories to tell about our 2018 runners and their motivations for training and fundraising on behalf of our foundation, and thanks to our friends and partners at Regan Communications – and its incredibly talented videographer, David Hayman – we’re thrilled to share two video vignettes profiling Team JAF runner’s David Roche (here) and Amy & Ali Pepe (here).

One of the final milestones for Team JAF runners in any Boston Marathon season is CharityTeams’ annual ‘Hop 21’ run, where participants dress in bunny-themed costumes while conquering their longest training run to date. The event always produces some amazing photos, so be sure to head over to JAF’s Facebook page to see the full album (here)!

And if you haven’t had a chance already, be sure to visit TeamJAF.org to view our full 2018 Boston Marathon roster, donate to a specific runner’s campaign, and learn more about what’s driving them towards the finish line!

Time To Get Those Clubs Out Of The Storage Closet…

The Joe Andruzzi Foundation returns to Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, MA, on Monday, June 25 for its 10th Annual Golf Tournament, presented by East Commerce Solutions, Inc.

Last year’s tournament raised $300,000, and proceeds from this year’s event will once again benefit JAF’s mission to provide help, hope, and a reason to smile, for New England cancer patients and their families by contributing financial support when it is needed most.

For more information on sponsoring or playing in this year’s tournament, please visit the event’s online registration portal (here) or contact the JAF Special Events Team at (508)-261-0630 or by email events@joeandruzzifoundation.org.

March Is World Social Work Month!

All month-long, the Joe Andruzzi Foundation has been celebrating World Social Work Month in honor of the amazing patient advocates our foundation works with throughout the year – like Kristy (pictured above) – a Community Resource Specialist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Every day, healthcare professionals like Kristy across New England meet with cancer patients to bridge the gaps in healthcare. Whether it’s transportation for treatments or advice for navigating health insurance, cancer patients rely on these support systems to navigate their cancer journeys.

We hope you will take a moment to read our spotlight on Kristy and consider making a donation to JAF’s Annual Fund in honor of the healthcare professionals tirelessly working to help New England cancer patients fight for their lives.

13-Year-Old Idahoan Raises Funds For JAF

Seventh-grader Henry Gale of St. Ignatius Catholic School in Meridian, Idaho recently organized a school-wide fundraiser for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation as part of a community service project. For a $2 donation, students of St. Ignatius were allowed to come to school dressed in their favorite sports team gear. (Henry dressed in a JAF shirt and Patriots hat, of course)The event was a huge success, raising $978 for JAF. Thank you for your generous support, Henry – it’s so heartwarming to see a young adult with a passion for helping others! You are an inspiration to us and the entire Joe Andruzzi Foundation community!

Thank You Behavioral Concepts, Inc.!

Dr. Jeff Robinson, founder of Behavioral Concepts, Inc. and a long-time donor and sponsor of JAF, hosted a holiday party/fundraiser for his vendors and staff and chose the Joe Andruzzi Foundation as this year’s beneficiary. By nights’ end, $25,000 had been raised in support of the New England cancer patients JAF serves – and we had the pleasure of hosting Dr. Robinson earlier this month for a check presentation.

Please help us send a HUGE JAF-sized THANK YOU to Dr. Robinson, Behavioral Concepts, and everyone who attended the event and donated!

JAF Patient Story

April Cabral’s cancer story started the way so many do: with a strange lump and equally strange feeling.

It was a few weeks after her 35th birthday, about two years ago now, and she was already scheduled for a mammogram. Tests soon confirmed her fears: Stage 4 breast cancer.

April was shocked. “I had no cancer symptoms, no family history.”

What followed was a harrowing journey no young mother should ever have to endure – but, through it all, April has relied on family and positivity to make it through the toughest times.“Little moments that normally everybody takes for granted, you appreciate more.”
